Newly crowned Airtel- FUFA player of the year 2019 and KCCA FC forward Allan Okello will be back in the Cranes squad as CECAFA record Champions Uganda take on the Taifa Stars of Tanzania in the CECAFA Senior challenge cup Semi finals.
Fifteen time champions Uganda are buoyed by a good form that saw them top group A with a 100% winning record. They take on Tanzania who managed one win and finished second behind defending champions Kenya in group B after a goalless draw with Sudan in their last game.
Uganda who won the tournament the last time they hosted it in 2015 are also favorites to win this year's title after an unbeaten run since the appointment of Northern Irish tactician Jonny McKinstry.
Allan Jolly Okello who on Saturday 14th December, 2019 went home driving a brand new Subaru Forester after winning the male's best player of the year accolade comes back to the squad with much Vigor.
Also back to the squad is KCCA's goalkeeper and captain Charles Lukwago and FUFA big league reigning Most Valuable player of the tournament and Airtel FUFA Player of the year finalist Bright Anukani. The three were rested in the previous two matches and come back after enough resting time.
Tanzania who have won only three and lost 13 of the last 21 encounters with the Cranes will rely on Young African's experienced defender Kelvin Yondani, goalkeeper Aishi Manula and SC Simba's forward Miraji Athuman ‘Madenge.
On learning his semi finals opponent after a goalless draw with Sudan, Tanzania's coach Juma Mgunda had this to say;
"I am really pleased we are in the semi finals and that was all we wanted from today’s game. We now know we will play Uganda, the home side. It will not be easy but we are determined as a team to go all the way and compete for the title."
The match is slated for today 17th December 2019 at the KCCA stadium, Lugogo 3.45pm.
