As the world is busy fighting the Pandemic Outbreak Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) that originated from China, a new disease caused by another type of virus called Hantavirus has come in claiming one person and putting the lives of others he travelled with at a risk.
According to the Chinese local newspaper The Global Times, the person from South Western Yunnan Province passed away after contacting the virus.
"A person from Yunnan Province died while on his way back to Shandong Province for work on a chartered bus on Monday," the newspaper tweeted.
Other 32 people who were travelling with him on the bus were isolated and tested and their results are yet to be published.
Hantavirus is an RNA virus that lives in rodents. The virus is known to be causing no diseases in rodents but infects people causing Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome and Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS).
The virus is commonly transferred to humans through contact of rodent’s urine, feaces or saliva and no human to human transmission was known until in 1996 when it was reported in Argentina.
