Uganda U20 National Team (Hippos) Depart from Dares Salaam to Mauritania For AFCON

After close to ten days of camping in Tanzania in preparation for the 2021 Total AFCON U20 Finals, a contingent of 25 players and 9 officials has in wee hours of Wednesday 10th February,2021 departed Tanzania for Mauritania for the tournament.

The national U-20 team nick named "The Hippos" has had two matches in preparation for the tournament, winning 1:0 in the first leg before losing 5:3 in the second match both against Tanzanian.

The team left Tanzania at 5am and is expected to reach Nouakchott, Mauritania on Thursday Morning at 2am.

The Hippos will play their first match of Group A against Mozambique on 15th before taking on Cameroon two days later and finalize their group matches with a face off with hosts Mauritania on 20th February,2021.

On the ten days in Tanzania, the head coach Morley Byekwaso had this to say,

‘We lost to Tanzania 5-3 in one of our buildup games. It was not a good result but we also scored some good goals. We realised the mistakes and managed to work on them before departing for Mauritania. All the boys are in good shape and I believe they will put up a great performance in AFCON‘ said Byekwaso before departing for Mauritania."
