Four times Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have on Friday afternoon named a new head coach in names of Robert Oliveira aka Robertinho.
Through their Facebook page, Vipers had this to announce..
"πππ° ππππ ππ¨πππ‘ ππ₯ππ«π!!!
Brazilian Roberto Oliveira aka Robertinho is our new head coach."
Vipers has had no coach since they parted ways with former head coach Fred Kajoba in May, 2021. Kajoba left on allegations that he failed out to agree with the technical stuff on terms of how to serve his two masters ie Vipers SC and the Uganda Cranes where he's the goalkeeping coach.
He since then left the Kitende based side and his assistant Paul Kiwanuka has held the head Coach's role on an interim basis from then.
Robertinho was recently coaching Kenya's side K’ogallo’s popularly known as the Gor Mahia, and with the experience of more than 20 years of coaching, Vipers SC club director Lawrence Mulindwa sees potential in the Brazilian.
Speaking at the coach's unveiling, Mulindwa acknowledged that they looked for a coach who is a leader, teacher and one who will put in place a philosophy and an unique identity of a club's football and hence opted to bring in former Rayon Sport FC (Rwanda) coach Robert Oliveira.
Oliveira will be assisted by fellow Brazilian Marcelo Cardoso as the first assistant coach.
Vipers SC finished 3rd last season on 56 points, two adrift of eventual winners Express FC and one behind second placed URA FC. They won 17 matches, drew 5 and lost 4 in the 26 matches played as the league was ended pre-maturely due COVID-19.
