Youthful journalist Henry Mugenyi Wins 'Heroes In Health Media Excellence Award' Again

NBS Television investigative journalist Henry Mugenyi has once again won this year’s 'Media Excellence Award' at the Heroes in Health Awards (HIHA) 2022 held last evening at the Common Wealth Resort Munyonyo.

Mugenyi emerged winner with his story titled 'Predators of Busoga' that focused on teenage pregnancies in the Busoga sub-region after beating fellow journalist, Andrew Kyamagero whome he was competing with in this category.

Heroes in Health awards (HIHA) is a rewards initiative instituted to recognize outstanding individuals, entities, organizations, services, products, and programs in the health sector.

Upon receiving the award, Mugenyi expressed gratitude to God and his work environment for pushing him to greater heights.

“All God! I am the #HIHA2022 ‘Media Excellence’ Award recipient, having also won this last year! I am NOT stopping. Thank you all! #NBSUpdates.” Mugenyi said.

Mugenyi started as a youth tv show host at NBS TV “#NBSMixUp and #NBSYouthVoice as he was perusing his studies and later transited into the newsroom where he has worked on block buster stories like, the Fake covid19 Results, Street of Shame; a story that focused on the dire situation on Mulago Hospital’s Emergency ward, The predators of Busoga key among others that have made his name stand out and become a house hold name when it comes to health journalism in the country and the region at large.

He is a two times winner of this award that recognizes journalists that are doing great in health journalism.

The Heroes in Health (HIHA) Awards is a public-private partnership project instituted in 2019 by the Ministry of Health with the support of Xtraordinary Media as it is a public choice award, where members of the public nominate and vote their heroes in the Health sector.

The Minister of Health Dr. Jane Ruth Acheng has rallied all health workers to desist from prioritising their interests in money than the lives of people. Through the Presidents’ speech read by the chief guest, the Vice President Jessica Alupo, she justified the presidential policy of having the salaries of all scientists enhanced. This was during the awarding ceremony of heroes in health of 2022.
 
The ministry of health asserts that this annual ‘heroes in health’ awards has produced noticeable strides in the sector.

According to the permanent secretary for the ministry, Dr Diana Atwine, the awarding ceremony has proved to be a source of motivation and inspiration to health workers across the country.
