Uganda's national women football team, The Crested Cranes have qualified for the Africa Women Cup of Nations 2022 that will take place from Sat, July 2nd 2022 – Saturdya July 23, 2022 in Morocco.
This follows the withdraw of Kenya who Uganda was supposed to play in the next and also last huddle of qualification.
A CAF statement sent to FUFA partly read, “We regret to inform you that we have just received Kenya FA’s correspondence informing us of their withdrawal from Women AFCON- Morocco 2022,” reads the statement.
The two sides were meant to face off in the first leg hosted by Kenya on 17th February 2022 with the second leg hosted by Uganda on 23rd the same month.
Nigeria are three time defending champions having won it in 2014, 2016 and 2018. The 2020 edition was called off due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Four best teams at the tournament will qualify for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup to take place between July and August in Australia–New Zealand.
