Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate, Dr Douglas Singiza has ordered for the immediate release of Alex Twinomugisha, a 50 Year old man who has been on remand for murder for over 22 years.
The state Pprosecutor, Keko Joan presented a Nolle Prosequi dated 23rd February 2022 indicating that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has lost interest in the matter.
“This is to inform Court that the Director of Public Prosecutions has decided to discontinue proceedings against Twinomugisha Alex Charged with Murder Contrary to section 188 and 189 of the Penal Code Act.”
A copy of the same has been served to Resident State Attorney of Buganda Road court, Regional CID Kampala Metropolitan South.
In response to that, the trial Magistrate ordered for immediate release of Twinomugisha.
He was arrested in 1999 for the alleged murder of Makerere University students and since then, he was never committed to High Court for trial.

On remand, he spent more than 20 years, to which his other co-convicts served before they were released in September last year.
